World Car of the Year: Winners announced

WCOTY

A few weeks ago we reported on the finalists for the World Car of the Year Awards. The awards were to be handed out at a ceremony at the New York Auto Show. And so the votes are in and some car companies are feeling especially proud.

The jury for the wards included motoring journalists from almost all corners of the world including North America, Europe and Asia. They tested all the nominated cars and voted for their favorites – and we must say, we are not too surprised by the results.

Either way, it’s always good to know which cars are standing out above the rest.

The winners are:

World Car of the Year -

Audi A3 – The Audi beat out the likes of the BMW 4 Series as well as the Mazda 3 to take the top honors.

World Green car of the Year -

BMW i3 – the cute little electric car from BMW was up against the Audi Sportback G-tron and the Volkswagen XL1 and managed to come out on top.

World Performance Car of the Year -

Porsche 911 GT3 – pitted against some serious competition like the Corvette Stingray and the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the Porsche definitely proved it’s worth.

World Car Design of the Year -

BMW i3 – The second award for the BMW i3 of the night. The i3 has really showed off. Nabbing both the coveted Green award as well as Design award shows you that this little car means big business.

World Luxury Car of the Year -

Mercedes-Benz S Class – No surprise here. The S Class has been getting widespread acclaim from various places and simply judging by the elegant design of the car, one can clearly see why it took top honors.
