Alphabetical Apps Your Kids Will Love

Learning and writing the alphabet is as easy as A, B, C with these alphabetical apps.

1. Interactive Alphabet. $3.79 iPhone, iPad
For the price of a coffee, you can score a multi-award winning app that’s ideal for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Packing a lot of different levels into a simple interface, Interactive Alphabet covers everything from simple touchable drawings for the babies, to writing preparation with tracing letters for the preschoolers. We love that you can choose between American or British accents, and there are no in-app purchases and no ads.

2. Endless Alphabet. FREE Android
Meet the cutest bunch of little monsters you’ve ever seen in the fantastically illustrated Endless Alphabet app. Ideal for the preschooler age bracket, this app concentrates on contextualizing the alphabet into common words. Kids solve word puzzles by dragging and dropping each letter into the correct order. Endlessly engaging, each letter has their own personality when it is swiped, for example, ‘C’ has chattering teeth and there’s a singing ‘L’.

Once the word puzzle is completed the app gives a definition of the word via an audio voiceover, plus the little monster characters also ‘act out’ the definition of the word too. This is a free app, but it does have in-app purchases that will expand the amount of words available.

3. Dora ABC’s Volume 1: Letter and Letter Sounds. $4.99 iPhone and iPad
Dive into an alphabetical adventure with Dora and Boots! Developed and reviewed by preschool education experts, this app takes a methodical approach to learning the abc’s. Starting with recognition of letter sounds, continuing to tracing letter shapes and finally associating letters with sounds. Learn upper and lower case letters, match letters to pictures and flick through over 70 letter-based pictures. Plus, you can have multiple player profiles within the app, so you can keep track of how your kids are progressing.
