Well this is rather surprising.
You may have heard that car company, Tesla, has announced that they are ‘opening up’ their patented electric technology to anyone (or any auto manufacturer) who wishes to use their technology ‘in good faith’.
This means that the company will not sue anyone who makes use of their technology to further the use of electric cars in the world.
“Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology…[sic] our true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day,” Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla said in a blog post.
The whole idea behind this ‘sharing is caring’ policy, is to try and reduce the use of gasoline cars across the globe. As we all know, global warming and the melting of the ice caps are very real problems we face, and with all the gas emissions from the millions of cars around the world, Mother Nature is not a happy lady.
“Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal,” Musk continued.
While this is a surprising move, considering the intense competition in the automobile sector, it does make a helluva lot of sense. If we truly want to help the Earth and reduce horrible, toxic emissions, the only way to do that is by standing together and giving each other a helping hand.
According to reports, two of the world’s biggest car companies – and pioneers in electric cars in their own right – have expressed their interest in collaborating with Tesla.
Nissan and BMW have reportedly said that they would like to work with Tesla on different charging technologies across the globe.
Should this take off, we might be heading for somewhat of a automobile Renaissance, a revolution if you will. And we’re firmly behind that idea. Anything to save the planet we call home.
